Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast Casserole is an easy, crowd-pleasing breakfast dish made with soft Hawaiian rolls, a rich custard, and fresh blueberries. This sweet, comforting casserole is perfect for any morning gathering and requires minimal prep time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups half and half
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish (11×7 or 12×8 inches works best).
  2. Cut the Hawaiian rolls into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Layer half of the cubed rolls in the bottom of the dish and top with half of the blueberries. Repeat with the remaining bread and blueberries.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and blueberries slowly, ensuring that every piece of bread is soaked.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  7. After 40 minutes, uncover the dish and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is slightly wobbly.
  8. Remove from the oven, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with maple syrup, if desired.

Notes

  • If you want to make this dish ahead of time, prepare it the night before, cover with foil, and refrigerate. Bake the next morning with a few extra minutes added to the cook time.
  • Substitute blueberries with other berries, such as raspberries or blackberries, for a twist on the classic recipe.
  • For a chocolatey variation, add 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips in place of the berries.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
